New Brooklands Broadband among fastest in UK
Residents of new development, Brooklands in Milton Keynes, will benefit from amongst the best available broadband speeds in the country, at some of the keenest prices. The development is unusual in that high speed fibre optic cable is not only being installed from the exchange to the junction box on the site, but also from the box to individual homes.
Developers, Places for People engaged independent
Fibre Networks (IFNL) to install the Brooklands broadband and
new residents will be able to buy packages at speeds of 50 - 200
Megabits (Mbit) which do actually achieve those
speeds.
"So many people are getting nothing like the speeds they are
paying for from their internet service providers because the
cabling bringing the service to their home just can't carry it,"
says Ed Attree at IFNL. "What Places for People has done at
Brooklands is to put in a network which can handle those
speeds because it's all fibre optic."
It might be assumed that all new developments are using this
modern technology but that is far from the case.
"I could take you to a new site a stone's throw away from
Brooklands where they're still installing old copper cables and the
broadband speeds people will be able to receive there will be much
slower. There certainly won't be many places in the whole
country where people's internet connections are as fast as
here. What's more, the price per Mbit makes it one of the
cheapest too!"
Places for People Project Director, Simon Elcock, says,
"We wanted to future-proof the broadband network for residents
moving in to Brooklands and an all-fibre approach was the only
logical way to do it. Apart from the efficiency advantages
there are significant environmental benefits in keeping with the
whole philosophy behind the development. Fibre uses about a third
of the energy needed to run copper cabling. Brooklands has
serious green credentials and we're proud that this adds to them.
An additional benefit is that Brooklands can officially be declared
a satellite dish free zone!"
Elliott Stiling, Sales Director, Places for People
added: "With an increase in people now working from home and
employers offering flexible working options, it is essential that
we are able to offer residents not only a stunning landscaped
environment but also the technology to make living at
Brooklands as enjoyable, comfortable and easy as possible."
