Wolverton Park is a World-Beater
The multi-award winning Wolverton Park development has landed the company behind it, Places for People, yet another prestigious award, this time on the world stage.
Wolverton Park beat off stiff competition from across the world to land the Urban Land Institute Global Award for Excellence, at a ceremony in Los Angeles. It was the only British winner and picked up the prize alongside four other developments – three in America, and one in Singapore.
Beating of stiff competition from Italy, Austria, Saudi Arabia
and Turkey, the project has won the Urban Land Institute's 2011
Award for Excellence for the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions
and was the only British finalist. The Awards for Excellence
recognize the full development process of a project, not just its
architecture or design and are widely recognised around the world
as the highest accolade for creative and sustainable
land-use.
David Cowans, Chief Executive of Places for People, says, "We very
proud of what Places for People has been done at Wolverton Park and
it is a real boost when an organisation as important as the Urban
Land Institute recognises the quality of what has been achieved
here, especially on the global stage."
The transformation of the former industrial site into a highly
sought-after residential area has already been extremely well
received in the industry picking up awards from a host of different
bodies including What House?, the London Evening Standard, the
National Home Improvement Council and the National Railway Heritage
Awards. Wolverton Park was formerly an engineering centre
with facilities for working on carriages and steam locomotives and
it was also the base for the Royal Train. Now it has been
transformed into stylish and elegant modern homes to suit a variety
of family sizes and needs while keeping the best of the old brick
and iron industrial structures. With a host of facilities
including the train station only a few moments walk away it is fast
becoming Milton Keynes most desirable place to live.
David Cowans says, "It's always great to be recognised by your
peers. The ULI Award will bring Milton Keynes and Wolverton Park in
particular to the attention of a lot of people in the industry both
here and abroad, so it really is very exciting. We hope our
customers will be as pleased as we are that the beauty and quality
of their homes is appreciated by independent experts who really
know what they're talking about."
